You Can Have a Bountiful and Delightful Garden in Nevada County
Nevada County’s a wonderful place to live. We’re surrounded by forests with a beautiful wild river to visit, hiking and biking trails, and many arts events.
But living in and around this wilderness, especially now, poses some serious considerations on how we landscape and garden.
There’s the deer. Knowing how to have a nice landscape despite their hunger is a challenge.
Then there’s drought. The western states are currently living with a “megadrought”, which is a drought that persists for the better part of 20 years. So, setting your landscape up to use less water is crucial.
Drought and higher summer temperatures have increased our fire risk. This poses one of the worst threats to our sense of peace and safety.
But there are ways to work with these issues. Developing a landscape or garden can take a lot of knowledge specific to our region.
My aim is to help you get the information you need to work with these constraints. How to make good decisions on what to plant and where, how to maintain it, and how to make your land around you delightful!
Find out what grows well here, which plants are deer resistant, how to work with the soil here, how to have a bountiful garden in drought times, what plants will attract and help pollinators and birds, how to deal with pests without killing the bees and birds, and more.
You can have a productive, delightful landscape and garden in Nevada County. And a little knowledge can get you started.
