How did I get here?
While growing up in a small town in Connecticut, surrounded by trees and fields, I roamed the woods and picked wild blueberries, played in brooks and streams, and learned the native trees and plants.
I came of age paying a lot of attention to the news of the human impact on the environment which I loved so dearly. So I got my B.S. in Environmental Chemistry from the State University of New York, College of Environmental Science and Forestry and set out to save the Earth!
I landed in Los Angeles and quickly fell upon a wonderful organization called Tree People which mobilizes volunteers to work on urban and forest tree plantings. It was there that I learned so many of California’s trees and plants, both native and imported, and about water limitations and fire-prone ecosystems. I worked with Tree People and developed their tree nursery and park headquarters as an environmental education center.
Since then I’ve accumulated work experiences as a science teacher, as a market gardener, in a botanic garden and in nurseries, as well as owning a nursery, designing and installing landscapes, and maintenance gardening, along with Permaculture and landscape design training. With this spectrum of experiences and passion for the outdoors, nature, and plants, I now help people create landscapes and gardens to be beautiful, functional, and to help restore the earth.
